More choices for better transportation

Report finds rail lobbying steady despite opposition in Congress – The Hill’s Transportation Report.

Republicans have made putting the brakes on President Obama’s rail initiatives a hallmark of their first few months in the majority of the House, but a new report found that rail lobbying was steady thus far in 2011.

Lobbyists.info found that there were 303 lobbyists registered to work on rail issues, compared to 304 for automobiles, 631 for aviation, 123 for trucking and 201 for highways.

The railroad lobby spent $3 million in the first quarter of 2011, the report found.

The groups have plenty to weigh in on with the effort by Republicans in the House to defund high-speed rail proposals that were awarded federal money at the beginning of the Obama administration and to privatize Amtrak service in the Northeast.
