Amtrak Passenger Upset By Early Morning Questioning

No doubt some pain-in-the-rear-end pansy liberal who has some delusional ideas about not being randomly rousted by cops at 5 AM in am Amtrak sleeping car. The very nerve of a mere citizen to question government authority!

Railroads Gain Leeway on Safety Rule – WSJ.com

I think this is probably a good thing. It would potentially  remove one main obstacle for renewed service in the Florida panhandle on the Sunset route.

WASHINGTON—The Obama administration has agreed to scale back requirements for new anticollision technology on freight trains, in an attempt to resolve a legal dispute over the multibillion-dollar safety initiative.

The move could potentially save the freight-railroad industry hundreds of millions of dollars as it works to meet a congressional mandate for installing collision-avoidance hardware, known as “positive train control.”

RAILWAY AGE COMMENTARY ON HIGH SPEED RAIL – RailwayAge Magazine

… If the Obama Administration really wants to see a corridor in the United States that meets international high speed standards—trains cruising at 200 mph—the fastest path right now may be to transfer Florida’s funds to California, just as the DOT recently transferred funds in smaller amounts from Ohio and Wisconsin, which rejected them, to Florida and California

Viewpoint: Restore Pensacola’s Amtrak | Pensacola News Journal | pnj.com

This Pensacola, Florida editorial is far from collectivism. Amtrak is not HSR, but it is still good transportation and much of Florida has been cut off since Amtrak “suspended” service after Katrina.

Do we need AMTRAK passenger service in Pensacola? We need it and I don’t see why we don’t have it. We have a practically new, modern terminal just sitting there, gathering dust and graffiti, to the east of 14th Avenue. Part of its parking lot is used by the nearby liquor store.

George Will favored HSR Oct. 1, 2001

Looks like Mr. Will suffered from a bit of that collectivist delusion just a few years ago. Honest. Check it out.

Of course, that was BEFORE it became necessary to destroy Barack Obama at all costs.
