Mr. Sullivan, please explain to us how the extension of the successful Chicago-Milwaukee Hiawatha service to Madison is a boondoggle.
To respond to your other point, the restoration of service to Madison is measurably distinguishable from the Florida HSR corridor:
1) It isn’t a isolated segment like Tampa-Orlando, intended to be extended at some later date with more funding that isn’t yet conceived much less adopted. Once the tracks and signals are fixed and stations in place between Madison and Milwaukee, the trains will operate Chicago-Milwaukee-Madison from Day One.
2) It isn’t a brand new line on new right-of-way, electrification, 150+ MPH trains, etc. It’s an incremental improvement and restoration of an existing ROW with conventional train equipment.
With all due respect, if your position is that you’re going to oppose or criticize everything Amtrak does, or every ARRA HSR project — even those that aren’t really HSR like the Madison restoration — until the eastern Sunset Limited is restored, please realize that Scott Walker isn’t on your side and would consider that an even bigger boondoggle than the Madison extension.
Railfans here need more support from someone like you, vs Conservative Airplane lover anti Passenger Train. i.e. Amtrak,. and so on. Groble.
Thanks again John. please get hold of Train Magazines. they are a very kind group, and would love to write articles for you.
Of course, your Article is subject to being Edited. I don’t know this for a fact. however, I had a Step Dad that died now 35 years ago that was the Editor for the Minneapolis Star. Point made.
THANKS FOR NOTHING FOX NEWS. THE JERKS THAT ARE AGAINST FAST SPEED TRAINS IN THIS COUNTRY, VS THE STUPID CROWED SLAVE SEETING AIRPLANES WILL NEVER GET OFF THE GROUND. YET, THESE STUPID FOOTBALL STADIUMS WILL BE BUILD FOR THE CRY BABIES. DUH. TRY TO MAKE SENSE TO COST. DUH.
Whoopee for him, it is a boondoggle, same as the line
planned in Florida.
