A Chinese state-owned enterprise is going up against the Japanese, competing for the US$8 billion which U.S. President Barack Obama had earmarked to remake U.S. railways.
General Electric has already announced a partnership last November with China’s Ministry of Railways to manufacture equipment for U.S. high-speed rail projects.

TOKYO, March 29 (Reuters) – Hitachi Ltd (6501.T), Japan’s largest electronics maker, said it aims to double sales from its railway-related businesses in six years by tapping growing demand overseas, sending its shares four percent higher.
The company is stepping up overseas marketing efforts as emerging nations such as China and Brazil, as well as advanced economies including Britain and the United States, plan to build high-speed railway systems as environmentally friendly alternatives to air and road travel.
