More choices for better transportation

Turkish HSR launches at 256 km per hour

That’s 156 miles per hour. It’s fastet than any American train. though well short of European standards. Sabah files the report.

Prime Minister Erdoğan participated in the opening of the new high-speed train between Ankara and Eskişehir yesterday. The Ankara-Eskişehir high-speed train began official services yesterday, with an opening ride boarded by Prime Minister Erdoğan and his wife Emine Erdoğan

It should be noted that a portion of the line this train runs on is conventional (non-dedicated HSR) track with dangerous grade crossings, which restricts speed. Once the high speed line is completely opened, timings should improve. But this mixed use of tracks should provide pointers for US proposals (i.e. Midwest HSR), barring meddlesome FRA regulations. It is a little bit sad that the U.S. isn’t even in the ballgame let alone a leader in the field. Hopefully the stimulus will get U.S. HSR into the ballpark.
