Rural rail service survives in Germany

Europe’s blazing high speed trains are well known, but there is also a commitment to routes other than the metropolitan corridors. Bloomberg reports.

Germany’s government won’t cut subsidies for individual train stations and rail routes, the Transport Ministry said today.

The Financial Times Deutschland newspaper reported in today’s edition, citing a draft document, that Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee plans to end support for stations at which fewer than 100 passengers board or alight on weekdays and for routes with fewer than 1,000 passenger kilometers a day.
