Design, construction approved for western Massachusetts rail – BostonHerald.com.
HOLYOKE — State officials say final design and construction plans have been approved for high-speed rail in western Massachusetts.
U.S. Reps. John Olver and Richard Neal and Sen. John Kerry and federal and state transportation officials said Friday that the U.S. Department of Transportation signed a nearly $73 million grant agreement. Funding is available from federal stimulus money.
This may or may not be a good project, but high speed rail????

Once again, the media shows it’s cluelessness. It’s definitely not “high speed rail”, but rather rehabilitation of existing track that had fallen into disrepair. For all we know back in the 1950′s this track may have been in pretty good condition. I wish the careless use of the term “high speed rail track” would end for two reasons: 1. it is inaccurate, and 2. it gets the anti- rail forces foaming at the mouth, muttering “boondoggle” repeatedly.
